Importing Graphics into Microsoft PowerPoint

 

Goal:  Participants will successfully import graphics from clip-art, a file, a digital camera, a flatbed scanner, the Internet, and a CD-ROM into a Microsoft PowerPoint  presentation.

 

Importing a Graphic from Clip-Art

1.      If you have a slide layout with a picture box, simply double-click on the clip-art icon and select a picture, then click Insert.

2.      If you do not have a picture box on your slide simply select Insert/Picture/Clip Art, then choose a picture and click insert. Adjust picture size and placement.

 

Importing a Graphic from a File

1.      Select picture box if you have one, choose Insert/Picture/From File.

2.      Navigate through the drives to find your picture, then select Insert.

3.      Adjust picture size and placement.

 

Importing a Graphic from the Sony Mavica Digital Camera

To capture a picture: Still pictures are recorded in JPEG format.

1.      Slide the POWER switch to the right to turn on the power and insert a floppy disk until it clicks.

2.      Set the PLAY/STILL/MOVIE selector to STILL.

3.      Press and hold the shutter button halfway down and check the image.

While the AE lock indicator (green) button is flashing, the image is frozen, however, the image is not yet recorded.  When the camera finishes the automatic adjustments, the AE lock indicator lights up and the camera is ready for recording.  To cancel the recording, release the shutter button.

4.      Press the shutter button fully down.  The shutter clicks and the image is recorded on the floppy disk.

 

Using the Zoom feature: Digital zoom enlarges the image by digital processing.

1.     Zoom lever T side: for telephoto (subject appears closer)

2.     Zoom lever W side: for wide-angle (subject appears farther away).

 

Playing back still images:

1.      Set the PLAY/STILL/MOVIE selector to PLAY.

2.      Press on the control button to display the menu bar on the LCD screen.

3.      Select the desired still image with the control button.

Press //ƒ/  on the control button to select |ƒ/| on the LCD screen, then press ƒ/.

              |ƒ: To display the preceding image.

              |: To display the next image.

4.      To delete a picture, highlight Delete and press Control button

 

To use image on a personal computer::

1.      Remove disk and insert into floppy drive of computer.

2.      See Importing a Graphic from a File  section, above.

 

Importing A Picture from the Umax Astra 1200S Flatbed Scanner

1.      Place picture, book, or magazine on scanner, at top right corner.

2.      Open Paint Shop Pro 5.

3.      Select File/Import/TWAIN/Acquire.  This will open the VistaScan program.  (Its will automatically start Previewing.)

4.      Enclose area to be scanned with a box.

5.      Push Scan button. 100dpi @100% will give 1:1 scan.  100dpi @ gives 1:2 scan. 

6.      Resize the image by adjusting %. 100dpi is OK for most projects.

7.      Scanned image will appear in Paint Shop Pro 5.

8.      Use Colors/Adjust/Brightness/Contrast to adjust colors and brightness.

9.      Reduce the amount of colors used.  Select Colors/Decrease Color Depth/256 Colors. This is satisfactory for most projects and will reduce keep storage and memory space.

10.  Select Save As. Navigate to drive and folder. Save as jpg or gif.

 

Importing a graphic from the Internet

1.      Log on to Internet Explorer.

2.      Find a picture you would like to copy.

3.      Click once on the picture using your right mouse button.

4.      Select “Copy

5.      Return to your document and “Paste”.

 

Importing a graphic from a CD-ROM

1.      Insert the program CD into the CD-ROM drive.

2.      Select Insert/Picture/From file.

3.      Select the CD-ROM drive.

4.      Navigate through the folders and select a picture.

5.      Select Insert.
